ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the prayer hall with the statue of Guru Padma Sambhava at Chumi Gyatse in Tawang district on Monday. The prayer hall has fulfilled the aspirations of the local Tibetan and Monpa community of Chumi Gyatse.

In a joint effort, led by the State Chief Minister and the Army, work on the project commenced in May, 2018 and was completed in June 2020. Along with this construction, the civil administration and the Army also improved the connectivity to this remote location by constructing a motorable road, stated a PIB (Defence wing) press release.

Chief Minister Khandu dedicated the prayer hall to the people of Arunachal Pradesh for offering prayers at this highly revered site. He also hoped that this would boost tourism to this remote area. The Chief Minister also thanked the Army's initiative for declaring '2020' as the 'Year of Tourism'. He also thanked the Army for providing assistance in making the project a reality; and threw light on the civil-military bonhomie existing in the border State of Arunachal Pradesh.

The event was also attended by the MLAs of Dirang and Lumla as well as the local Monpas of Tawang, the release added.
