ITANAGAR: A total of 90 recruit constables and recruit head constables- Telecom undergoing 47th basic training at Police Training Centre (PTC), Banderdewa near here have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past four days.

Superintendent of police (SIT), Hemant Tiwari on Friday informed that the training has been temporarily suspended for two weeks. He said that the officers of PTC have been directed to keep in regular touch with the recruit constables who have been detected COVID-19 positive and to extend all possible help.

"Officials and staff of PTC were directed to take all precautionary measures in collaboration with the Health Department to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in the campus," he said.

He also said that the Principal and Vice Principal, PTC was directed to arrange required infrastructure so that virtual classes of "indoor subjects" can be conducted at PTC.

"The principal and vice principal, PTC were directed to explore the possibilities of conducting remaining outdoor training following social distancing norms," he said," informing that one of the recruit constables has recovered and is kept under home quarantine at PTC.

The review meeting to assess the evolving situation and decide the further course of action will be conducted on October 8 next month.

He said the entire decision was made during a meeting held today at police headquarter, Itanagar and chaired by the Director General of Police (DGP), R.P. Upadhayaya and attended inspector general of police (Training) Apur Bitin and Vice-Principal, PTC Techi Hanyir.

Meanwhile, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) in an order on Friday has declared barracks of "D, E and F Company located in PTC, Banderdewa campus as "Containment Zone".

The numbers of recruit constables and recruit head constables- Telecom tested positive for COVID-19 were 84 on Thursday.
