Disaster Awareness Meet Held At Hapoli, Arunachal

Itanagar: A day-long awareness programme on disaster preparedness was imparted to the children of Government Lal Bahadur Shastri School, Hapoli in Lower Subansiri district on Wednesday by World Vision India in collaboration with district disaster management authority.

Headmaster of the school Padi Paying in his address requested all the teachers and students to take advantage of the training programme.

DDMO Ziro Nima Drema while highlighting about the safety tips in case of any natural calamities said, “The children are the most vulnerable groups in the society during natural calamities. Therefore it is necessary to educate all the children about the dos and dont’s during any natural calamities. “ Since the school is treated as a second home to the children, it is essential to give them a safe and structurally sound environment in the schools by preparing their SDMP she said.

“Preparedness of every student in the school will depend upon the teachers and school management committee, hence every teachers and SMC must have knowledge about disaster management and prepare themselves and students for any mishap,” Drema added.

Program Manager of World Vision India, David Dutta also spoke on the importance of having School Disaster Management Plan. He explained in detail the preparedness activities to be initiated in the schools and requested the teachers represented from various schools to prepare safety plan for their respective schools.

The team later distributed activity books on disaster preparedness to the children during the programme, an official release informed here.
