East Siang DC Dr Kinny Singh Flags of Matru Marathon Under Poshan Abhiyan

Itanagar: East Siang Deputy Commissioner Dr Kinny Singh on Saturday flagged off the Matru Marathon from DEM School field at Pasighat, the district headquarters, as part of the fortnight long Poshan Pakhwada, held under the aegis of deputy director ICDS under the department of women and child development, to spread the message of proper nutrition for better health and immunity particularly among mothers.

The abhiyan was joined in large numbers by women, youth, Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs), supervisors and Gram Sevikas of 3 ICDS project of Pasighat, Mebo and Ruksin ICDS projects among others, an official communique informed. The Matru Marathon marks the successful culmination of the Poshan Pakhwada that began on March 8 last. The DC also administered Poshan Pledge on the occasion.

Deputy Director (ICDS) Ponung Ering Angu, CDPOs of the 3 ICDS projects of Pasighat, Mebo and Ruksin, Onyok Panyang, Mailong T Moyong and Minam Taloh, One Stop Centre (OSC) administrator advocate Mary Tatak, District Sports Officer Nada Apa, O Taloh ,Vendor President of Pasighat Vegetable Market were among others present on the occasion. The Matru Marathon under Matru Vandana Yojana, culminated at Gandhi Chowk, where a large number of people gathered for the prize distribution programme.

With the focus of the PMMVY, to create awareness among pregnant and lactating mother to combat malnutrition, the Poshan Abhiyan was celebrated in three ICDS projects -Mebo, Pasighat and Ruksin with various activities like Mother’s Meet, where mothers and girls were given awareness about nutrition and cleanliness.

Anaemia camps were also organized for on spot haemoglobin test by the medical team, the communique added.
