ITANAGAR: The Congress in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday alleged the ruling BJP government of embezzling fund to the tune of Rs 200 crore allocated by the Centre under Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) during the last fiscal.

“The state government led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu has embezzled Rs 200 crore fund allocated under PMGSY during last fiscal year which is known as infamous Trans-Arunachal Highway (TAH), besides its involvement in many scams, including cash for jobs in Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC), health and PWD, to name a few, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Takam Sanjoy alleged. “Many, including elected representatives were involved in compensation payment for Joram-Kolorian-Poting-Bopi stretch of TAH. When people made hue and cry, the state government formed an inquiry committee headed by land management secretary S K Jain with Lower Siang DC A K Singh as the member,” he told media persons in Arunachal Press Club here.

Quoting the inquiry report, he said, “Cores of rupees were misused by hundreds of families without any land and infrastructures. We are thankful to urban development CE Taba Tedir for surrendering Rs 3.25 crore he had received as compensation to Lower Subansiri DC. I appeal to all those who have received compensation payment to refund to the DC as per Abotani tradition for distribution as per first detailed report (DPR) of Union MoRTH ministry.

Sanjoy accused the Modi and Khandu governments of their involvement, saying it negated Modi’s slogan “Naa khaunga, naa kisiko khane dunga” (Neither I shall eat nor allow others to do it). The corruption through mid-day robbery in TAH proves the involvement of BJP governments; he alleged and advocated that the affected landowners should be duly compensated.

Appreciating state Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra for consistently monitoring the TAH scam, he said such steps by the institution of the governor are appreciable.

“However, poor involved in corruption should not be victimized alone as law should be equal for one and all and RKM Hospital here should not be a so-called jail for the higher-ups arrested in corruption cases,” Sanjoy said.
