Hundreds Participate in ‘Clean Macha River’ Campaign at Seppa,

SEPPA: Hundreds of youths, students, members of NGOs, government officials and the public joined the “Clean Macha River” an initiative of East Kameng students of Rajiv Gandhi University here today at Macha river, Seppa, East Kameng.

During the cleanliness drive in river Macha, volunteers collected and cleared tones of debris likes plastic bottles, plastic materials, wrappers and Medical waste from the river as well as from its banks.

“Besides the river cleanliness drive, we also organized awareness meetings among the people living on both banks of the river about the importance of a clean river and clean surroundings. We also elaborated to them the adverse effects of open defecation and pollution in rivers,” said Tunka Cheri, a student of the University.

Meanwhile, chairman of the ‘Youth Mission for Clean River in Arunachal Pradesh’ Advocate SD Loda expressed his concern over collection of medical waste in the river Macha in East Kameng. Loda stated “This is a clear violation of the Environment (Protection) Act-1986 and also the order passed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on July 2019.

The YMCR chairman also threatened to register a case against the authority concerned for not complying with the NGT order. “Many hospitals, clinical laboratories, pharmacies or clinics in various districts which do not have biomedical waste management plant,” claimed Loda.
