Itanagar, May 20: An Indo-ASEAN friendship car rally, covering six countries, will be organized in September this year.

Apart from India, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia will participate in the rally, International Friendship Car Rally Association president Pem Sonam Sonam informed.

The 30-plus ASEAN delegates with 15 cars are scheduled to enter India on 4 September through the Moreh/Tamu border in Manipur. The team will meet business groups in Manipur, Nagaland and Assam on their way to Tawang to join the Indian team. Apart from sightseeing at Tawang, the ASEAN team will meet business groups and other stakeholders of the state.

The event will then be flagged off together with the Indian cars from Tawang on September 12 for a drive to Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia, and back to India. The ASEAN delegates will stay back in their respective countries.

The rally is aimed at boosting friendship and people-to-people contact between India and neighbouring ASEAN countries. It has been initiated by the Arunachal Pradesh government, with support from the government of India and the Royal Thai embassy in New Delhi to promote friendship and observe 25 years of friendship between India and the ASEAN.
