Jumi Rike Ete Memorial veteran football tournament begins

Itanagar: The second edition of the Jumi Rike Ete Memorial veteran football tournament with the theme ‘Football for Health and Sportsmanship Spirit’ got off to a flying start at Government HS School ground at Aalo in West Siang district on Monday. The tournament, sponsored by engineer Jumge Ete in the fond memory of his mother and organized under the banner of the District Sports Association and District Football Association, is being participated by eight veteran teams of the district.

Attending the inaugural ceremony, Topin Ete hailed the tournament as an eye opener for the youths to draw inspiration from the players who donned the West Siang colour in the past and brought laurels for the district.

He urged the young players to emulate their feats and take up games and sports with professional approaches to reap the benefits of the Sports Policy formulated by the government. In the opening match of the tournament, Aalo United Veteran beat Bene Veteran 4-1.
