Miji Dance of Arunachal Pradesh and Rongmei Dance of Manipur Set for London Date

NEW DELHI: The organizer of the ‘Indradhanush’ programme Ragasudha Vinjamuri informed that the Miji dance of Arunachal Pradesh and Rongmei dance of Manipur will be showcased at the Nehru Centre London- the Cultural Wing of High Commission of India on July 18 next.

She informed that the titled “Indradhanush” program aims to highlight the colorful tribal heritage and dance forms of India. “Miji and Rongmei are not known to UK audiences and we are glad and proud to bring these two forms to audiences here”, Vinjamuri said.

Vinjamuri informed that a lot of hard work went into this initiative, coordinating with members of tribal community, learning their authentic dance steps and procuring the original tribal outfits- all which consumed months of preparation.

“We have been presenting the wonderful art forms of Northeast and glad to have successfully presented some flavor so far out of the broad palette of tribal dances”, she added.

Miji or Sajalong have an interesting propensity towards nature-based worship and are a distinct group in Arunachal Pradesh. Rongmei or Kabui in Manipur area are also animistic and nature worshippers, with vibrant drapes and dance. The event is free to attend, organized by Sanskruti Centre and aims to generate greater understanding and awareness of India’s tribal arts and project India’s cultural image to wider audiences.
