‘Need to re-orient state plan on climate change’

Itanagar, June 7: Arunachal Pradesh Environment & Forests Minister Nabam Rebia has stressed on the urgent need to re-orient state action plan on climate change to achieve country’s targets for post-2020.

Taking part in a two-day state environment & Forest ministers’ conference at New Delhi on June 5 and 6 last, he advocated evolving scientific approaches to check impacts of global warming, the most challenging concern for global environmentalists. He called for focus to mainstream climate change concerns in respective sectors through innovative and transformative projects for faster access to climate finance rather than as a tool to seek finance only, an official communiqué informed here today.

Rebia lauded union ministers Harsh Vardhan and Mahesh Sharma for making India host of this important global conference, coinciding with declaration of ‘Beat plastic pollution’ as theme of this year World Environment Day celebration by United Nation. Issues including climate change, national clean air programme, environment impact assessment and waste to wealth, in four sessions, were highlighted by senior officers of the ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoWFCC).

Besides Rebia, Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board chairman Techi Tagi Tara, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) Omkar Singh and additional PCCF A K Shukla attended the event, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the communiqué added.
