ITANAGAR: Hyderabad-based National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disability (NIEPID) will conduct identification, assessment and certification of 'Persons with Intellectual Disability' (PID) in three districts of Arunachal Pradesh from September 22.

The institute, under the Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MoSJE), in collaboration with the State's health and family welfare department and district authorities, would conduct assessment of PID at Roing in Lower Dibang Valley, Changlang and Miao in Changlang district on September 22, September 24 and September 25 respectively, NIEPID's Northeast coordinator Ganesh Sheregar said. Sheregar, leading a team from NIEPID, will soon visit Arunachal, the only State in India where no schemes to empower divyangjans are operational.

The NIPID would also distribute 68 teaching and learning material (TLM) kits at Roing, 31 at Changlang and 43 at Miao, whose total cost would be approximately Rs 20 lakh, Sheregar said. Doctors and psychologists from the State will be joining the NIEPID team in every training programme, Sheregar said while recalling the training programme conducted at Oju Welfare Association at Naharlagun, near here, in January this year.
