ITANAGAR: The Diplomat National Board (DNB) has approved introduction of three-year post-graduation level programme, equivalent to post graduate course, in gynaecology for Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) near here, from this academic session, said state's Health & Family Welfare Minister Alo Libang.

The TRIHMS, first medical college-cum-hospital of Arunachal Pradesh which started its academic session from August 2018 with an annual intake of 50 students, will create this benchmark by offering four DNB seats; he said and congratulated TRIMHS team led by its director Dr Moji Jini for this unparallel achievement.

Dr Jini, when asked, said that the TRIHMS would have been eligible to offer regular three-year PG courses after first batch MBBS students pass out only. But this college meets all criteria to offer DNB courses which would serve as a boon for experienced doctors of reputed private or Govt medical collages who due to unavoidable reasons cold not purse PG courses, he said with confidence.

In fact a high level team had inspected TRIMHS last year to assess the available infrastructures and faculty strength to grant permission for introducing DNB courses in gynaecology, pediatrics, radio diagnosis and anesthesiology, Dr Jini said.

These four seats - two for three-year course and other two for two-year post-diploma courses, Dr Jini said, adding the criteria for seat allotment would be decided by the DNB which used to allot 6,848 DNB seats, equivalent to MD/MS. However, these 4 PG seats would increase the total number now, he added.
