Protest against rape, murder of minor girl in Naharlagun
NAHARLAGUN: Protest continues near Chessa area bordering Assam in view of the recent suspected kidnap, rape and murder of a minor girl with the body of the decreased found at Rajghar roadside toward Arunachal border on August 19 morning.
Hundreds of students from Lower Primary, Middle school and secondary school of Simalguri on August 20 carried out peace march of around 4 Kilometre demanding justice for the deceased and at the same time for peace and tranquility in the area. The women groups of the area also organized a protest and dharna which was supported by hundreds of local and demanded immediate arrest of culprit involved in the incident and award of exemplary punishment as per law.
Naharlagun SDPO Make Bui present on the occasion informed this daily that situation in the area is under control and no any untoward incident has been reported from the area. Elaborate security arrangement have been made by the police administration from both side of the boundary. ASP North Lakhimpur and OC Bihpuria from Assam side and SDPO Naharlagun with Banderdewa is monitoring the situation in the area. He said a meeting with the women groups and locals of the area was held on other side of the boundary near Chessa in Assam side where the locals have demanded immediate arrest of the culprit within 7 days.
