Rajiv Gandhi University Expands Academic Wing, Creates More Seats

Itanagar: The Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here, has taken steps for academic expansion to offer students wide ranges of choices for higher education.

The central varsity has decided to introduce MA (defense and strategic studies) under its newly opened national security studies department and MA (tribal studies) under Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies with 16 seats each.

Moreover, in tune with Centre’s directive, the RGU like central universities will create additional 10 per cent seats in each programme in diploma, bachelors and PG level courses exclusively for economically weaker section (EWS) category candidates and plans to earmark a supernumerary seat for foreign nationals in each PG level programme, according to an university release here on Friday.

With the RGU getting ready to conduct entrance examinations – RGUMPET-2019 and RGUCET-2019 at five designated centers for 1796 (PhD, M Phil, PG and under graduate, PG diploma and certificate) courses, 2000 candidates registering till Thursday evening indicating rising demand for higher education in this remote part of India.

Those appearing in final semester/year examinations of degree courses are eligible to apply for above exams, which will have 100 multiple choice questions.

Toeing Digital India initiative, the varsity has made a difference by offering online admission portal since May 9 last.

The decision to go for online admission was taken in the last academic council meeting chaired by vice chancellor Prof Kushwaha, according to joint registrar (academic) Dr David Pertin.

The online application submission which started on May 9 last, will culminate on June 8 for RGUCET-2019, while for RGUMPET-2019 the last date has been fixed for May 24, 2019 for online application submission.

Selection through entrance in all departments including physical tests, personal interviews and Group Discussions in departments like Physical Education, Mass Communication and Management and their final admissions shall be completed latest by August 2 this year.

The RGU ranked among top 100 universities among 907 universities in India by National Institutional Ranking Framework of union Human Resources Development Ministry, has all the potentialities despite its numerous bottlenecks, registrar in-charge Prof Tomo Riba said.
