KIMIN: Hundreds of women from various self-help groups staged a protest against the delay in the construction of the 20-km road from Kimin to Potin by the Border Road Organization (BRO), in Kimin on Wednesday.

“The construction of 20-km stretch of road started in 2012 and the target for completion was 2017. But the BRO is yet to complete 50 per cent of the works,” said a local denizen Phil Tadap.

Besides formation cutting, two minor bridges, at least 4 culverts, drains and road at least eight kilometres long are still pending, said Tadap. He also added the road is strategically important because the Army often uses it.

Further responding to the protest by the SHG members, Colonel BRO-528 (SS&TC) VS Bhandari informed the agitators that all the pending work from Kimin to Potin will be completed within March 31, 2020. “We are giving our best and even our forces are working day and night in the said stretch of road. If there are no weather issues, we will complete the road by March next,” he asserted.

While speaking of quality, the Colonel stated, “The BRO doesn’t compromise with quality and our roads are all weather roads”.
