Textbooks must reach students on time: Governor

Itanagar, May 27: Issues relating to improvement of educational system in the state, particularly in elementary and secondary leve,l were discussed when Education Minister Honchun Ngandam met Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra at Raj Bhavan here on Saturday.

Stating that if we have any expectation from the future generation, the Governor said, we must provide the students opportunities to excel in their studies by providing them on-time good educational wherewithal. The Governor, who has been emphasizing on making textbooks available to students, directed that textbooks must reach the students with the commencement of the academic session itself. He said utmost care must be taken for timely transportation, storage of textbooks in the districts and delivery of the books without any damage, a Raj Bhawan communiqué informed here today.

He also stressed that there must be proper monitoring from the Directorate level, and the Deputy Directors of School Education in the districts must take personal interest in the process. "The principals and headmasters must be sensitized for prompt collection and distribution of the books," he underscored. Sharing his observations during his tour to all the 22 districts and interactions he had with the students and education officials, the Governor emphasized on teachers' attendance and rationalization of teachers posting throughout the State.

He also stressed on opening of National Cadet Corps (NCC) units in the schools, construction of world-class Sainik School and putting special effort for education of the children from Puroik community.

Earlier, the Education Minister briefed the Governor on status of textbook procurement and distribution plans. The Minister also informed him about the ensuing recruitment of 127 post-graduate teachers and 544 trained graduate teachers, the communiqué added.
