Waste plastics Used In Road Carpeting on Trial Basis

Itanagar: The executing agency of four-lane highway (NH-415) construction here, along with the contractor carried out the road carpeting work using waste plastics along with bituminous concrete (BC) on an experimental basis at Papu Nallah near here.

Nirjuli PWD Highway Division Executive Engineer Nani Tath said that the road carpeting work has been carried out on trial basis with BC mixed with plastics on ongoing 4-laning of NH-415 as a part of ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign with the help of contractor M/s T K Engineering Consortium Pvt Ltd. The mission “Swachhta Hi Seva” was kicked off by local MLA Techi Kaso on September 21 in presence of MoRTH Regional Officer Subhash Chandra who informed that roadside plastic waste have been reused for road work particularly in wearing coarse to improve marshal stability and fatigue life and other desirable properties of bituminous mixed, leading to improved longevity and pavement performance.

Tath said that the formation cutting and other activities are on war footing and the officers of the highway division are monitoring the work regularly.

He said that there are still some hindrances like complete shifting of electric poles, shifting of water supply pipelines, BSNL cables and lines, administrative works and few encroachments.

Further, Tath appealed to the city dwellers to bear the difficulties faced by them due to construction of 4-lane highway and assured that some visible changes would be seen by March next.
