12 hr Assam Bandh: Central Hospital NEC Doctor assaulted in Digboi

Digboi: Sensation triggers in Oil town Digboi after an on-duty eye specialist from Central Hospital NEC Coal India Limited under Margherita sub-division was allegedly assaulted by some miscreants during the 12 hr Assam Bandh by All Assam Tai Ahom Students' Union in 3 No, Golai area at around 1.15 pm today.

As per police sources, the injured doctor was on her way to Digboi Civil Hospital along with her husband who is also reported to be a doctor by profession.

Police also informed The Sentinel Digital that the miscreants had pelted stones after stopping their Maruti Swift car bearing registration number AS 06Q 5636 at No. 3 Golai area. The husband namely Dr Biswadeep Borthakur and his wife Dr Dibya Singh Borthakur received some injuries on their head and leg.

Following the incident, Dr Borthakur lodged a complaint at the Digboi Police Station.

A case vide 49/19 under section 341/336/325/395/511/353/427/34 of the Indian Penal Code was registered today.

Meanwhile, speaking to The Sentinel Digital, Assistant Sub Inspector, Kuladhar Konwar said that both doctors were coming down to Digboi Civil Hospital from Margherita when they were attacked by some miscreants. We have summoned few people for interrogation, however, none have been arrested so far in this regard.
