142nd Rath Yatra begins in Golaghat’s Sarupathar

Sarupathar: Alike the other parts of the nation, the 142nd Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath commenced in Golaghat’s Sarupathar from today.

Lord Jagannath is considered a form of Lord Vishnu, derived from two words i.e. 'Jagat' and 'Nath' which means Lord of Universe. There is a tradition of brooming ahead of Rath Yatra, which is known as Pahid Vidhi. Moreover, the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath commenced this evening at Sarupathar including all over the Country. The Chariots of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balbhadra and sister Subhadra, then embarked on the Yatra, and amid tight security as more then, 500 of devotees flocked to the 15 km route to catch a glimpse of the deity.

According to the Hindu Calender, the festival is celebrated in Ashadhsud 2, an auspicious day which is also known as Ashad Shukla Dwitiya, which generally falls in early July. The Jagannath Rath Yatra of Ulta Rath on Bahuda Jatra on the return of Chariots will take place on July 10. Meanwhile, it is believed that anyone who gets to pull their cart is bestowed with the benediction of washing away all the sins they may have committed in all their previous birth.

Lord Jagannath, Goddess Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra travel in a chariot, and the chariot is pulled by hundreds of devotees by big ropes and takes several hours and even days to reach the destination.

Similarly, in Ahmedabad, Rath Yatra of Lord taking place from Lord Jagannath temple showed three main chariots – comprising of 19 decorated elephants, 100 trucks with tableaux and members of 30 singing troupes.

The Jagannath Rath Yatra 2019 has highlighted devotees across the nation taking out massive processions. On this auspicious occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed his good wishes to the devotees. The PM took to share his feelings and greetings through Twitter. With a huge quantity of devotees dwelling in the Indian states of Gujarat, Odisha and other parts, these states seems to have made enormous arrangements for celebrating the auspicious day.

Conveying his greetings to the devotees, PM Narendra Modi writes, “Best wishes to everyone on the special occasion of the Rath Yatra. We pray to Lord Jagannath and seek his blessings for the good health, happiness and prosperity of everyone. Jai Jagannath.”

Amidst the fervor and devotion of devotees in Odisha, what is commendable to see is the state gearing up for the celebrations despite being hugely affected by Cyclone Fani just a couple of months back. The state government with its disciplined management of Fani affected places and a timely repairing of the infrastructures has ensured that the people of the state do not have to suffer from a delay in the developmental processes.
