KOKRAJHAR: The Opposition members of the BTC Legislative Assembly on Wednesday lamented the apathy of the State Cabinet towards the Rules and Bills of BTC that had been passed and sent by the Council Legislative Assembly for the Governor’s assignment.

Talking to reporters after the end of the budget session, the opposition MCLA of BTC, Jyatirindra Brahma said as many as 27 Rules and Bills passed by the BTC legislative assembly had been sent to the State cabinet for the Governor’s assignment since 2005 but nothing had happened till date. He said that they had doubts whether the bills passed by the BTC assembly reached the table of the Governor. He also said it was very unfortunate on the part of the present BPF-led BTC government for failing to motivate the Government of Assam to get the Governor’s assignment.

Brahma said that though the last Assembly session of BTC on Wednesday passed the Bodoland Territorial Council Excise Bill, 2019, adding that it would be sent to the State Cabinet for the Governor’s assignment, he wondered whether this Bill would reach the Governor’s table. He pointed out that so far 28 Bills of the Council had been sent but Dispur had ironically been showing apathetic attitude towards the Bills of the Council.

He questioned as to why the State Government was indifferent towards BTC Bills? He lashed out at the State Government for failing to give attention to BTC Bills and said that the bills passed in the Council Legislative Assembly were meaningless until the Governor put his signature on them.

Opposition MCLA Brahma also said the term of the present Council had come to an end and another new Executive Council would come after the end of the fourth BTC election in April-May.
