30-year-old Man Arrested on Charge of Uploading Obscene Photos of Girl

PATHSALA: The police have arrested a 30-year-old man from the Tamulpur area in Baksa district allegedly for uploading obscene pictures of his ‘ex-girlfriend’ on a social networking site. A case (456/18) was registered against the man in Patacharkuchi police station under Section 498 (A) 315/500 IPC R/W Section 67 of IT Act on July 13 on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman. The man, who hails from Nagaon, was arrested on Saturday.

The accused has been identified as Nipon Bora. The girl, hailing from Natun Belona village under Patacharkuchi police station in Barpeta district, said in her complaint that the man had circulated her obscene pictures on the social media. She further stated that she had entered into wedlock with Nipon last year at Kamakhya temple and had since been staying together in a rented accommodation in Pathsala till recently.

The police said that Nipon had dumped her recently as some issues cropped up between them. The man snapped his contact with the girl since then.

The police said that Nipon had created a fake facebook account in the name of the girl and uploaded some of her nude pictures along with her phone number in the account. The girl started getting calls from her friends as the photographs were uploaded from her account.

Arrested Nipon said that the girl, to whom he had come into contact through phone call and subsequently developed an intimate relation, had lied to him that she was unmarried. “When I got to know that she had already been married and had an affair with a guy, I immediately snapped ties with her. She used to send me obscene photos and lied that she was unmarried,” Nipon told this correspondent.

The police have seized the mobile phone of the arrested youth. The accused was taken in police custody from Tamulpur on Saturday, and was produced in the court in Pathsala. He has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
