LAKHIMPUR: “A total of 36,968 posts are lying vacant in various departments under the State Government at present. Contrary to this, the number of permanent appointments is 15,076 while the number of temporary appointments is 269.” This was disclosed by All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA) as per information found through the RTI Act, 2005.

Through a press communique, AAUA central committee president-in charge Dharmendra Deori and general secretary Jiban Rajkhowa said that the aforesaid information was provided to the general secretary of the organization in reply to his application submitted through the RTI Act, 2005. The press communiqué further stated that the organization was still unable to know the number of posts lying vacant in the police department, education and health departments.

The organization expressed concern over the issue of so many posts lying vacant in the State and over the incapability on the part of the State Government to fill up these posts. In this regard, the president-in-charge and the general secretary asserted in the press communiqué that the people of the State had brought the BJP to power after the party made the poll promise of engaging two lakh unemployed youths each year.

“But now the State Government has shown comprehensive failure with regard to providing engagement to the unemployed youths of the State,” stated the press communiqué.

The organization will organize a citizens’ meet in Guwahati in the last week of December regarding the issue.
