DEMOW: Under the patronage of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Thowra Bidhan Parishad and in association with AGP, Sivasagar District Parishad, the 37th foundation day of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) was organized in Demow Public Playground centrally with a day-long programme on Thursday.

Atul Bora, president of AGP, Keshab Mahanta, working president of AGP, Phani Bhusan Choudhury, senior AGP leader, and other AGP Leaders were given a warm welcome in Demow by AGP Thowra Bidhan Parishad and AGP Sivasagar Zila Parishad on Thursday. According to the schedule, the programme started with flag hoisting by Atul Bora. At the same time, 37 flags were hoisted in Demow Public Playground. Keshab Mahanta offered the swahid tarpan. Phani Bhusan Choudhury offered tribute and remembered his colleagues

An open session was organized in Demow Public Playground which was presided over by Atul Bora. Senior citizens were felicitated in the programme. Lila Jyoti Phukan, president of Thowra Bidhan Parishad, gave the welcome speech in the open session. Atul Bora said that the AGP was born in the year 1985 in Golaghat and from 1979-1985 a mass agitation was started to free the State of illegal foreigners. He slammed the Congress and said that the Congress had opened the door for foreigners to enter into Assam.

Later talking to media persons, Atul Bora said that the State was witnessing development due to the efforts of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government. When asked about the bye-election, Bora said that Sushanta Borgohain, the BJP-led alliance party candidate for Thowra constituency, would win with a big margin. Sushanta Borgohain was also felicitated in the programme.
