A tribute to Saradindu Senchowa

My elder brother, Saradindu Senchowa, a resident of Hengrabari, Guwahati and a retired Deputy Secretary to the Government of Assam, passed away on August 18, 2021 due to old age ailments. He was fondly known as 'Rumu' by friends and family. Rumu dada was born at Dibrugarh on January 26, 1944 to (Lt.) Dr. Sibanath Senchowa and (Lt.) Punyaprabha Senchowa. Growing up as the eldest in the family, my brother was showered with a lot of love and affection from everyone. As a twenty something young man, my brother had just started a job in the Assam Secretariat, when our father passed away and responsibility of the entire family fell upon his shoulders. From then on, he willingly and wholeheartedly took charge of all us 6 siblings. He gave my elder and younger sisters and me in marriage and took care of both our brothers' education and made them capable, independent people. As a true family man, he also lived a long conjugal life and had 2 children. He was a pillar of strength to the family.

Besides taking on all responsibilities on the personal front, he was also a conscientious officer, sincere and dedicated, and was well loved and respected by all his colleagues. Extending a helping hand to one and all was his second nature. He was a well-read person and a voracious reader. Even with his frail health in the last couple of years, one could always find a book by his bedside, that he was currently reading. He spent his last days in the loving care of his wife, son, daughter and son-in-law. Losing him from our midst is no less than missing the protective embrace of a father's presence in our lives. Today on his Adya Shraddha, I pray to the lord for the eternal peace for dada'sdeparted soul.
