LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Deori Students' Union (AADSU) has demanded the State Government to hold the Deori Autonomous Council (DAC) election at the earliest.

The organization raised the demand on Friday by taking out a protest rally in North Lakhimpur town. In this connection, Lakhimpur district unit AADSU president British Deori and secretary Uttam Deori said, "The State Government constituted the DAC to render all-round development of the community through self-governance. But the constitutional period of time to hold the due election of the DAC is already over. The election of the autonomous council has not been held for a long time. Despite such circumstances, the State Government has paid no attention to hold the DAC election yet. By initiating the protest programme on this day, we have demanded the government to hold election immediately."

The organization further demanded the government to carve out one DAC constituency, out of the four newly-increased constituencies, in Lakhimpur district. The president and secretary also demanded the government to declare the details about the newly increased constituencies at the earliest.

Through the same protest programme, Lakhimpur district unit AADSU also demanded the government to launch probe into the alleged scam in DAC and initiate action against the corrupt, to control price hike, to include Deori community in Sixth Schedule, to appoint Deori language teacher in the schools of the State, to accord land pattas to the Deori community people, to appoint teachers in the LP Schools of the State to maintain the student-teacher ratio. In support of these demands, the organization submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur.
