ABSU demands provincialization, introducing Science stream in 12 colleges

KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) on Thursday urged State Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to introduce Science stream in 12 colleges, mostly in BTC region, and also urged to provincialize 1,021 venture LP, UP and HE Schools across BTC and 46 colleges.

Talking to media persons at Bodofa House, the assistant general secretary of the ABSU, Kwrwmdao Wary said that the Education Minister raised vital issues pertaining to the solution of the educational problems in Assam and pitched for introduction of Science stream in regular Arts and Commerce degree colleges in Assam. He said the ABSU wanted inclusion of more number of colleges for the introduction of Science stream from the BTC region and parts of Assam where students had been deprived of pursuing higher education in Science since long.

The ABSU demanded inclusion of Science stream at Janata College, Serfanguri, Kokrajhar Girls' College in Kokrajhar district, Basugaon College and Bengtol College in Chirang, Salbari College, BB Kisan College, Jalah and Giyanpith Degree College, Nikashi in Baksa district, Khwirabari College and Mazbat College in Udalguri district, Murkhongselek College, Jonai in Dhemaji district, Sarupathar College in Golaghat and Thong Nokbe College, Dokmoka in Karbi Anglong.

Wary urged the Government of Assam to resolve all the problems in Bodo medium education. He also said the announcements made by the Education Minister to declare the list of provincialization of venture schools and colleges very soon would leave out many Bodo medium schools, degree and junior colleges. The assistant general secretary said there were 711 Lower Primary, 235 Upper Primary and 75 venture High Schools in mix medium schools in BTC and 148 LP, 62 UP and 35 HE venture schools in single Bodo medium in the region. He also said there were 25 junior colleges and 21 venture degree colleges in BTC area. He further said the most of the Bodo medium schools and colleges, either in BTC or in Assam, had not been provincialized and thus the Bodo medium was being neglected systematically. He urged the Government of Assam to take appropriate measures for the development of Bodo medium education in the State.
