ACCCL of DHSK College, Dibrugarh organized 'Open Access E-Resources' programme

DIBRUGARH: The Ashwini Charan Choudhury Central Library of DHSK College, Dibrugarh organized an online awareness programme on Monday on 'Open Access E-Resources', in collaboration with Assam College Librarian Association (ACLA).

The programme was inaugurated by the Principal of the college, Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia. In his inaugural speech, Dr Saikia stressed the importance of e-resources in the present day context. He said that information technology had changed the whole scenario of the education system and there was need for information literacy among the academic fraternity to overcome the barriers through the use of online resources.

He said, "There is no dearth of resources, the only thing is that we must have the proper information of its availability and accessibility." He also said that such awareness programmes could definitely boost the knowledge of teachers in the use of electronic resources which would ultimately reach to the students. He appreciated the efforts of Assam College Librarians' Association and in this context he especially thanked Dr. Prasanta Kumar Deka, general secretary of Assam College Librarians' Association (ACLA), for the commendable efforts of the ICT Cell, ACLA under his dynamic leadership.

In his address, Dr. Deka offered his gratitude to the college authority, DHSK College for the support in their endeavour towards creating awareness on use of e-resources among the academic community. The resource persons, Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, Gauhati University, and Dr. Birender Pal, Librarian of Kaliabor College and Coordinator, ICT Cell, ACLA, enlightened the participants through their expertise in the field. The presentations in the session introduced the participants to various government initiatives like Swayam, NDL and Swayamprabha along with detailed discussion on various open access e-resource; effective use of which is expected to support the students as well as the whole academic community in their 'study from home' initiative. A good number of participants from different institutions of Assam participated in the programme and the programme ended with a lively interactive session. Dr. Pallavi Gogoi, librarian of the college, offered gratitude to ICT Cell, ACLA for their timely efforts and support towards organization of such an awareness programme.
