ACKS stir against Warren Tea for non-payment of arrears salary

TINSUKIA: The Assam Chah Karmachari Sangha (ACKS) has announced a series of agitation against Warren Tea Limited for non-payment of arrears salary and unilateral decision to deduct 30 per cent in the salary of March and April on the pretext of lockdown.

A press release issued by Rishav Kalita secretary Tingri Circle of ACKS stated that the employees under registered offices of Balijan North, Dewhal, Hatimora, Tara, Rupai, Sealkutee, Duamara at a meeting held on May 25 through video conferencing resolved to initiate a series of agitation beginning from June 5 and subsequently submitted a memorandum with 9-point charter of demands to the president operation of Dewhal-based registered office on Friday. According to the programme finalized, the employees will wear black badges on June 5-June 6 and resort to beating of utensils in front of respective offices June 9 to June 11. They will observe ceasework on June 15 and June 16. The present phase of agitation will culminate with staging of a hunger strike for 9 hours on June 17, the release stated.

Kalita stated that the company as per agreement failed to its commitment in releasing 2nd installment of 30 per cent arrears before March 31. It also halted time-bound promotion besides blocked fresh employment. Despite several appeals from the ACKS, the company did not pay any heed to release travelling allowances for the employees and pension benefits to its retired employees, Kalita alleged in the press note.
