AJYP Initiates 'Gana Pratirodh Sangram' Against Citizenship Bill

LAKHIMPUR: Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad (AJYP) has vowed to defuse the alleged conspiracy on the part of the Union Government to pass the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the Parliament.

The organization said that if the Bill was passed and turned to an Act, the fate of the indigenous communities of Assam would be the same of the Tripuris who were now minorities in their native land. The organization, therefore, initiated 'Gana Pratirodh Sangram' across the State against the contentious Bill in order to pressurize the Union Government not to pass the Bill in the Rajya Sabha. The organization launched massive awareness drive among the people against the Bill initiating the agitation programme. At the same time, AJYP raised strong voice demanding implementation of the Land Right Reservation Act for the people of Assam on the basis of the National Register of Citizens updated in 1951. The organization has expedited awareness drives among the masses to muster support and to create public opinion regarding this demand too. The organization started the protest programme on Saturday, at a time when Republic Day was observed all over the nation.

A public meeting on this occasion was organized under the aegis of Lakhimpur district unit of the organization at its office premises in North lakhimpur town in which adviser-in-chief Surajit Bhuyan, State secretary Sudipta Hazarika, journalists Bubul Hazarika, Prashanta Kumar Modak, ACYA State president Dharma Kanta Gogoi and Lakhimpur MASS secretary Raju Singha were present. Then Surajit Bhuyan flagged off the awareness vehicle carrying the organizational team designated for the awareness drive against the Bill and in support of the Land Right Reservation Act for the people of Assam. The team of the organization conducted awareness programmes on the outskirts of North Lakhimpur town on Saturday.
