DEMOW: Under the patronage of All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA), Khongia and Laujan Primary Committees, a two- hour demonstration was staged in Khongia Tea Estate near Demow on Monday.

Later, the activists of AASAA, Khongia and Laujan Primary Committees submitted a memorandum to the Manager of Khongia Tea Estate. In the memorandum, the AASAA, Khongia and Laujan Primary Committees demanded to appoint the local educated people as employees in the tea estate. The AASAA also demanded that the jobs of the people working in the tea estate had not been made permanent.

The organization demanded that the daily wage of tea labourers should be increased to Rs 351; 20 per cent bonus should be given to tea labourers and the educated youths of tea labourers should be appointed in various posts. Better hospital facility should be provided in Khongia Tea Estate along with an ambulance and a doctor should be appointed.

Aadesh Tanti, president of AASAA, Khongia Primary Committee, Jubin Tanti, secretary of AASAA, Laujan Primary Committee, and other AASAA leaders were present.
