TINSUKIA: The All Assam Mottock Sanmilan (AAMS) has expressed concern and objected to the definition of Assamese people as suggested by the panel committee under Clause 6 of the Assam Accord by amalgamating Assamese people and indigenous people together. In a statement, the Sanmilan stated, "All indigenous people are Assamese but not all Assamese are indigenous." It has appealed for revision of the definition by a high power committee.

In an executive meeting chaired by Chandra Senapati, president of the central committee of AAMS, held at Tinsukia's Borguri headquarter office on Wednesday, general secretary Kiran Rajkhowa categorically stated that all indigenous people living in Assam were Assamese but all Assamese could not be indigenous community. The new definition of indigenous people in contravention to UN's perspectives would not be accepted by the front-ranking indigenous body, the speakers opined. They also expressed concern over the functioning of All Mottock Students' Union by non-Mottock individuals that led to conflict in indigenous interest. The AAMS asked the student body to refrain from such malicious activities in future.
