LAKHIMPUR: The central committee of All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA) submitted a memorandum to Lakhimpur DC Dr. Jeevan B demanding him due enquiry against 12 appointments conducted in North Lakhimpur Municipal Board (NLMB) recently violating government rule.

It is notable here that Surya Phukan, the chairperson of last NLMB body, had appointed four persons in a fixed pay posts and regularized the jobs of eight pay employees of the urban body during the last days of his tenure violating the official order and sponsoring favouritism. The appointments were made at a time when the Director of Urban Development Department and Municipal Administration, Dispur has banned any kind of appointment and job regularization in the urban bodies of the State through an order issued vide No. UDD(M) 93/2013/116 dated December 17 on 2016. It is also alleged that the appointments and the job regularization were made on back date.

Regarding the issue, the central committee general secretary of AAUA, Jiban Rajkhowa expressed strong reaction and demanded the DC to scrap the appointments by launching a due enquiry taking the issue with utmost importance. On the other hand, the Employees Association of the Municipal Board also came down heavily against the aforementioned chairperson regarding the issue.

Meanwhile, the Employees’ Association has decided to file case in the High Court against the allegedly illegal appointments and job regularization very soon. It is also alleged that though the Employees’ Association of the Municipal Board reported the matter of the controversial issue to the DC of the district and the local MLA, they did not take any step against it till the date.
