All Bodo Students Union demands quick justice for Dr Rahul Basumatary

KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) on Sunday expressed deep shock and extended their condolence to the bereaved parents and relatives of Doctor Rahul Basumatary, who was undergoing his internship after graduation in Homeopathic from Dr. J.K. Saikia of Homeopathic Medical College, Jorhat. He was allegedly murdered at his rented room at the house of Hira Prasad Nath, Chandan Nagar, Jorhat.

In a press statement, the general secretary of the ABSU Lawrence Islary said the gruesome murder was suspected to be involvement of more than one person. He said ABSU has sent a letter to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal demanding quick justice for Rahul by constituting Special Investigation Team and to try the case in the fast-track court for quick delivery of justice.

The ABSU urged the government of Assam to take stringent action against the accused involved and punish as per the penal laws. Islary said for last three months Dr. Rahul Basumatary had been engaged for COVID-19 duty and, therefore, they urged the Government of Assam to grant compensation to the victim family for loss of such young and dynamic upcoming doctor in homeopathic medicine.

Dr. Basumatary hailed from Udalguri district and was son of Nogen Basumatary and Tirala Basumatary from Village No 1 Santipur, P.O.-Udalguri, of Udalguri district.

The ABSU strongly condemned the 'brutal murder' of the young and dynamic person and said the State government must look into all the angles of the case with proper investigation and nab all the culprits involved.

Later in the day, president of the ABSU Dipen Boro along with his colleagues visited the bereaved family and met the parents.
