KOKRAJHAR: In a shocking incident, a person aged around 60 years is on the run in Kokrajhar after allegedly raping a minor girl of 9 years of age. An FIR has been lodged at Bismuri outpost under Kokrajhar police station. The All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU), Kokrajhar district committee, has taken up the matter seriously and is helping the police administration to nab the culprit.

Talking to reporters at Maibong House, the president of Kokrajhar district ABSU, Kripesh Daimary said that one Raghunath Brahma (55) of Didwmpara under Bishmuri outpost allegedly raped a girl of 9 years who is his neighbour. He said the minor girl told her parents on May 20 that Raghunath sexually assaulted her at least twice after luring her by offering sweets. The girl revealed about the rape on the day of cremation of her elder sister who died by hanging herself under mysterious circumstances. The girl, who was a student of Class VIII, was also suspected to have been raped by accused Raghunath.

The president of Kokrajhar district ABSU, Kripesh Daimary said that the sexual assault by Raghunath was taken up by Bishmuri Anchalik committee, ABSU and they were helping the police to nab the accused person. He said that rape cases were increasing in the region and the ABSU would deal with such crimes in cooperation with the district administration. He also said that the accused was absconding since Friday evening.

Meanwhile, the Child Welfare Committee, Kokrajhar has taken up the matter.
