Anganwadi workers, assistants stage protest in Lakhimpur raising various demands

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur unit of the All Assam Anganwadi Workers-Assistants Association on Wednesday staged protest in Lakhimpur in support of their various demands.

Around 500 members of the organization, led by president Premada Mudoi and secretary Amiya Saikia Baruah, staged dharna in front of the Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner’s office demanding the State government to resolve their long-pending demands. Ignoring the torrential rain, the members of the organization rocked the environment of the DC office campus by shouting various slogans in support of their demands.

By staging the protest, the organization demanded to increase the retirement age of the Anganwadi workers and assistants to 65 years, to repair the damaged Anganwadi centres, to provide the workers and the assistants the benefits of ESI, to upgrade the mini Anganwadi centres to full-fledged ones, to upgrade the working assistants to the vacant post of workers, to cancel the proposal of unifying pre-primary education with the lower primary schools, to construct the Anganwadi centres with scientific system with electrification, pure drinking water system, separate cooking room, to provide pension to the retired workers and assistants and to pay ex-gratia of Rs. 3,00,000 to the workers and Rs 2,00,000 to the assistants at the time of their retirement until the pension system was introduced. The organization submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner regarding these demands.
