TINSUKIA: Ripun Bora, president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), has demanded a high-level inquiry into the Baghjan oil well blast and also to ascertain as to whose fault led to the blast, even as the incident happened due to utter negligence of the BJP-led State and Central governments and OIL as the blowout was allowed to continue for 14 days before the oil well finally ignited on June 9, he claimed.

Addressing media persons while observing sit-in at Thana Chariali in Tinsukia on Saturday, Bora bitterly criticized Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for not paying a visit to Baghjan, his home district, even after 18 days of the incident. He also lambasted the Union Petroleum Minister for not visiting the area.

Deeply moved at the distressing condition of the relief camps set up at Baghjan and nearby areas, Bora said that he had visited eight relief camps on Friday but to his utter dismay he saw that basic needs like water, bathrooms, toilets and health facilities were lacking and inmates were facing extreme inconvenience in the relief camps. He demanded that as long as the affected families were not rehabilitated properly, the government must take responsibility of all affected families who had lost all their belongings.

More than 100 Congress workers joined the protest on Saturday displaying placards while maintaining social distancing and COVID protocol.
