APCU organized Antarikshya Dutta Memorial lecture in Sivasagar

GAURISAGAR: Assam Press Correspondents Union (APCU), Sivasagar district committee, organized the Antarikshya Dutta Memorial Lecture on the topic 'The educational challenges of post-corona era and our responsibilities', in association with the Antarikshya Dutta Memorial Committee, for the third consecutive year at Konwerpur Nakatani High School in Sivasagar district on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering as an appointed speaker of the memorial lecture, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Lakhinandan Gogoi said, "Since the era of Adam and Eve we have seen that human life is full of struggles and challenges. Overcoming these will depend on our mental strength." He also highlighted how the coronavirus pandemic had affected every sector, including education. "We should neither panic nor take it lightly. To fight against coronavirus we must follow the norms like using masks, frequent hand washing and maintaining social distancing," said the DC. He also urged the student community to keep away negative thoughts.

The lecture session was conducted by Padum Kr Saikia, president of APCU Sivasagar District Committee, while Abdul Jelil, Inspector of Schools, Sivasagar district circle, inaugurated it. In his speech he said that without dreams a student could not prosper in life. He also praised the heads of the institutions, teachers, guardians and well-wishers who made it possible for Sivasagar district to secure the top position among all districts of the State in the recently declared HSLC exam result.

The other dignitaries who attended the function included Moon Gogoi, ADC (Revenue), Sivasagar and Extra Assistant Commissioners Malani Prasad Rajak and Gauripriya Deori. The Antariksha Dutta Meritorious Award was conferred to Gayatri Saikia of Konwerpur Higher Secondary School and Hemonta Duarah of Panbesa High School who passed the HSLC examination, 2020 with flying colours. The award carries cash Rs 5,000, a citation and a memento.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Lakhinandan Gogoi lit the lamp before the portraits of Antariksha Dutta and Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha. In the function, Konwerpur Press Club felicitated 20 meritorious students of greater Konwerpur area who passed the HSLC examination successfully. Besides, they also felicitated heads of five intuitions, namely Nakatani, High School, Santipur High School, Konwerpur HS School, Sankardev Sishu Niketan, Baliaghat and Sankardev Jatiya Vidyalaya, Baliaghat for cent per cent success in the HSLC exam. At the end of the meeting, one-minute silence was observed to condole the demise of noted journalist and educationist Guna Baruah and the Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the Galwan Valley during the recent clash with Chinese troops.
