BISWANATH CHARIALI: The Biswanath district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Biswanath urging Biswanath Chariali Municipal Board to take steps to clean up the garbage dumping ground of the board in a scientific manner, along with immediate closure of the waste disposal site.

The student body alleged that the dumping ground of Biswanath Chariali Municipal Board located on the outskirts of the town along the busy NH-15-Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya-Biswanath Ghat road, posed serious threat to the nearby Sadharu River and also to public health. For a long time, the Municipal Board has been dumping garbage in the area creating an extremely unpleasant environment. The stench emanating from the place always throws people into an awkward situation with the unsanitary conditions. In addition to the fact that almost every day the garbage is dumped there, the garbage gradually has occupied half of the road used by people.

The distance from this place to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), which is a residential school, is hardly 100 metres. The garbage is also getting mixed with the flowing water of the Sadaru River that passes along the road. Since the water of this river is consumed by cattle and also many people go for fishing in this river during the rainy season, this poisonous water has created a widespread concern for the health of the animals and the people living on the bank of the river.
