Police on Monday nabbed two persons, Faizul Haque and Eyusuf Ahmed, in connection with the brutal assault and killing of a certain Sanatan Deka in Kamrup district of Assam.

The Police officials took to social media to inform about the arrest of the suspects, who were identified as Faizul Haque and Eyusuf Ahmed. "We were reported about the murder in the afternoon of May 23, 2020. Public helped us in the identification of the perpetrators. Within 48 hours of reporting, our relentless efforts delivered results. Two prime accused, Faizul Haque and Eyusuf Ahmed now in our custody. We express our heartfelt condolences to the family of the bereaved", the Kamrup police informed via social media.

It may be mentioned that Deka, a vegetable-seller, was was allegedly thrashed to death by a mob comprising five men at Monahkuchi village under Kamrup district of Lower Assam. Deka, en route to his home after a hard day's work, was allegedly beaten when his bicycle collided with a vehicle bel Jalil Ali.

According to reports, Jalil and his friend Sabir started arguing with Deka and were soon joined by 3 others. Consequently, all 5 proceeded to brutally assault the helpless man before fleeing the spot. Reportedly, several eyewitnesses were present while the assault took place. Although Deka, bleeding profusely, was rushed to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

The sensational incident has raised an outcry across Assam, with several sections of the society demanding capital punishment for the perpetrators.
