Assam a victim of demographic onslaught: Janaklal Basumatary

Kokrajhar: Former IRS Janaklal Basumatary, who is also the president of Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM), on Tuesday said Assam was a victim of the demographic onslaught.

“To be enlisted as voter as in the Indian Representation Act, one has to be an Indian citizen but in the case of these foreign demographic aggressors, they are enlisted in the voter’s list to grant them Indian citizenship with the blessings of successive ruling political party leaders,” he said.

He said that the demographic onslaught of illegal foreigners in Assam had been invited by the political party leaders for their political agenda at the cost of the security of the people of Assam. He said Assam could not be saved by the implementation of clause 6 of Assam Accord unless fresh NRC was conducted from 1951 NRC update and the CAB was withdrawn.

Basumatary said the tribal people of tribal area administration territory were also not safe from socio-economic, land and political power-grabbing by the socio-economically advanced communities who already had exploited and grabbed the socio-economic constitutional benefit granted to weaker sections of tribal people of Assam. So the CAB and NRC from 1971 could not solve the illegal foreigners’ issue of Assam and if CAB was imposed on Assam, it would be greater demographic aggression in Assam, he said.
