Assam: Corona Warriors of Haflong Civil Hospital lauded by Health Minister for "exemplary work in trying times"

Guwahati: Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday facilitated the Corona Warriors of the Haflong Civil Hospital, where 77 Covid-19 patients have been treated amid a sharp spike in the number of cases in Dima Hasao.

"We hope that they will be continuing their fight against the Covid-19 with a view towards servicing fellow humans", Sarma said, after offering traditional Assamese gamusas to the doctors, nurses, ward boys, ward girls, etc.

It needs mention here that the persons engaged in treating the Covid-19 patients, go into quarantine for 7 days and return to duty if they test negative for the contagion.

"This hospital has a lot of infrastructural problems, however, the Council, Joint Director, Superintendent, doctors and staff, all have treated 77 patients, many of whom left for home after treatment. And they have adequate facilities to treat 32 more patients. Haflong Civil Hospital personnel must indeed be commended", Sarma said.

Biswa Sarma said that in case more cases are detected in Dima Hasao, they could be shifted to the Diphu Medical College for treatment. "The ICMR has accredited the Diphu Medical College as a testing centre. Now, samples need not be sent to Silchar. Earlier, people had to wait for 5-6 days to receive the results, but now, they will be able to get the results early. And in case there is a big boom of cases, they can be sent to Diphu for treatment, as we have made the provisions in this regard", Sarma said.

Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Assam has risen to 2,868. While 784 persons have recovered from the respiratory illness, 4 people succumbed to death due to complications.
