Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta tests negative for coronavirus

Guwahati: Assam's Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Hazarika finally overcame the dreaded COVID-19 virus after his swab tested negative on Sunday, August 31. Several other top-notch men in uniform also tested negative for the virus.

Tweeting about this development, ADGP ( Law and Order) G P Singh wrote, "DGP Assam @DGPAssamPolice, IGP L&O, SP @Dhubri_Police, SP @TinsukiaPolice DCP Crime Guwahati have turned negative from Covid-19. Great news for all of us. We thank the health officials who made this possible."

Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, the Director-General of Police, Assam, had reportedly tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus on Monday, August 10. He was tested after developing a slight fever. Immediately afterwards, the top cop was sent to home isolation.

Mahanta's COVID-19 'positive' status has come to the foreground at a time when several of the top Assam police officials have been infected by the respiratory disease.

As on August 29, as many as 3,640 Assam Police personnel have tested positive for the Wuhan-originating virus. Out of these, 3,173 have recovered from the virus. Unfortunately, 16 Assam Police personnel have succumbed to death due to COVID-19 related complications.

Assam COVID-19 Update:

On Sunday, Seven more COVID-19 patients died in Assam taking the total fatalities to 296, while 1,980 new cases pushed the state's tally to 105,774, Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
