The names making round are of Deepayan Chakraborty, a long time worker of the party, Gautom Roy, seasoned politician, a turn coat from Congress, and Rajdeep Goala, also a turn coat from Congress. The sitting MLAs of Silchar, Dilip Kumar Paul, and Amar Chand Jain of Katigorah, are expected to miss selection. The Lakhipur assembly seat has been a strong bastion of Congress since 1983 elections. After the death of Dinesh Prasad Goala, Congress MLA and Minister, a six time winner in elections, his son Rajdeep Goala kept the winning stroke by wining by election of 2012 and general election of 2016. He is now the preferred choice for Lakhipur in place of the losing MLA Anurag Thakur. Gautom Roy likewise is high on selection probable for Katigorah seat in place of the existing MLA Amar Chand Jain. For Silchar, Kanad Purkayastha also figures among the probable candidates for Silchar. Other 4 seats of Cachar, Udharbond, Borkhola, Dholai and Sonai and the sitting MLAs including the Deputy Speaker of Assam Assembly respectively will remain undisturbed, the source adds. It is relevant to mention that the sitting MLAs of Udharbond and Borkhola are Mihir Kanti Shome and Kishor Nath. Minister Parimal Suklabaidya from Dholai and Aminul Haque Laskar from Sonai will get nomination.
