Assam Government conducts 2.27 lakh Covid-19 tests

With the cases continuing to rise upwards, the Government has shifted its focus to conducting more Covid-19 tests to isolate the virus

Guwahati: A day after Assam had completed conducting 2.17 lakh Covid-19 tests, the state Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed that another 10,000 tests have been completed in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of tests conducted up to 2.27 lakh.

"Extremely pleased to share that we have completed a record 10,000 testing today, taking our total Covid-19 tests to 2.27 lakh. My compliments to our wonderful team of front line workers, doctors, scientists, and officers who have achieved this feat", Biswa Sarma tweeted.

The number of tests conducted per Covid-19 testing center is as follows:

Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH): 27,229

Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH): 21,315

Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH): 39,710

Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH): 11,992

Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH): 26,490

FAA Medical College and Hospital (FAAMCH): 35,045

Diphu Medical College and Hospital (DMCH): 481

Institute of Advanced Studies in Science and Technology (IASST): 4,295

Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC-ICMR): 20,476

Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO): 1,167

North East Institute of Science & Technology (NEIST): 109

At the same time, 35,783 tests have been outsourced to other states for testing purposes.

With the Covid-19 positive cases ticking upwards across the state at an alarming rate, the Health Department has launched the Assam Targeted Surveillance Program (ATSP) from June 17 onwards. Under this program, more than 50,000 random testings will be conducted within a week, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed. The program, which will be carried out all the 33 districts of the state, will aim to screen persons in certain categories who have been deemed as extra volatile and likely carriers of the respiratory illness.

It needs mention here that Assam has so far registered 4,319 cases of the Covid-19 so far, out of which 2,103 cases are active. While 8 persons have died from complications, 3 have been migrated outside the state. At the same time, 2,205 persons have been discharged after recovering from the virus and the recovery rate has now climbed upwards to 50%, which is at par with the rest of the country.
