Embankment breached at Gohinpara

PATHSALA: The current of River Pahumara on Tuesday breached a major portion of embankment at Gohinpara near Kenduguri and flooded many villages under Bajali subdivision. Flood water has created havoc in the area. The water washed away the house and belongings of one Krishna Kanda Madak. Flood has posed serious threat to Birjora, Doloigaon, Bhoukamari and other areas.

Phani Pathak, president of Bajali Zila Samiti of BJP, took stock of the situation and urged upon the government to take adequate and immediate measures for it. At present water is flowing at a high speed and even new areas of Nityananda, Bichankuchi and Gosaipara are flooded. The courtyards of many residents have been submerged by flood water and panic prevails among the people.

Youth drowns in Dhansiri River

TANGLA: One Kaushik Sarmah (19) of Udalguri town, a student of B.Sc. third semester in Computer Science of Pragjyotish College, was swept away by the turbulent Dhansiri River in the border of West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh at around 1.30 pm on Sunday while he was bathing with four of his friends. The Arunachal Pradesh police also picked up the four youths for interrogation in the matter. The body of the youth was retrieved at Lalpani under Mazbat PS in the district on Tuesday and it will be sent to Udalguri civil hospital for post mortem, said a police officer of Mazbat PS.
