Assam To Import 30 Gbps Bandwidth From Bangladesh

Guwahati: Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited, a government-owned entity of the Indian state of Assam is planning to buy 30 Gbps bandwidth from Bangladesh.

As per reports, in this regard, a meeting was held between the Posts and Telecommunication Minister of Bangladesh Mustafa Jabbar and a delegation from India at the Minister's office at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Reportedly, in the meeting, the policy decision of bandwith export from Bangladesh was finalized and after all the processes are completed by next November, the agreement will be signed in this regard.

Joint Secretary (IT) to the Meghalaya State Government Kumbamut Lang Nangari led the Assam delegation in the meeting and Bangladesh Submarine Cable Limited Managing Director Sahab Uddin was present in the meeting.

During the meeting, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mustafa Jabbar told the delegation that they don't have any problem in exporting bandwidth. As per the ministry, there is plenty of bandwidth available for events after meeting their own needs.

Mustafa further said that bandwidth is being exported to Saudi Arabia and India to meet the increased network demand in the country.

''Bangladesh has started the third submarine cable connection and when the third submarine connection is completed, additional bandwidth of about 13200 Gbps will be connected,'' he added.

Mustafa also directed the concerned institutions to initiate the process for bandwidth export to Assam.

As per reports, Assam will establish a cable connection from Sylhet's Tamabil via Meghalaya Dawki to Guwahati at its own expense once the process is completed.

The minister also assured the delegation that Bangladesh will establish an alternative line to ensure uninterrupted connectivity up to Tamabil.

Notably, Tripura imports 20 Gbps bandwidth from Bangladesh which started with 10 Gbps but recently increased to 20 Gbps.

Other members of the delegation such as Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited Manager Shyamal Sarkar, Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited Consultant CR Deka, and Dipankar Chowdhury were also present in the meeting.
