Bankers asked to work for uplift of poor people in Tezpur District-level Review Committee meeting

Tezpur: The District Consultative Committee (DCC) meeting and the District-level Review Committee meeting for the quarter ending March 2019 was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar on Tuesday.

Lead District Manager Debraj Chanda apprised the members present about the objectives of the meeting. The meeting reviewed the CD Ratio of all the banks as per the statistics of the quarter ending March, 2019. While the All India CDR norms is 60 per cent, it is 40 per cent for banks operating in the north-eastern region. The chairman asked the banks whose CDR was below average to improve their CD ratio and to submit their strategic plan for improvement of the same.

The achievements of all banks, sector-wise under the Annual Credit Plan 2018-19 were also reviewed during the course of the meeting. The meeting also reviewed the achievements of various government-sponsored schemes such as KCC, NRLM, SHG linkage, PMEGP, and MUDRA.

Chairman and Deputy Commissioner, while lauding the 89.28 per cent achievement against the financial target under KCC, pulled up the officials of banks whose performance was below par. Taking strict cognizance of those banks which are not providing loans to as per the guidelines, the Deputy Commissioner said all government accounts opened with such banks would be withdrawn if the banks did not improve their performance by the next quarter review. He asked the LDM to bring bank-wise data for the next review meeting so that their performance could be reviewed accordingly.

Speaking about the Prime Minister’s vision to double farmers’ income by 2022, the Deputy Commissioner laid stress on improving the credit flow to farmers under KCC and other farmer-related schemes, and appealed to the bankers to work for the uplift of the poor and marginal people. He also asked the bank representatives to be forthcoming in extending credit by increasing the number of sponsorships under various government-sponsored schemes, especially to unemployed youth. He also asked the banks to improve the CDR and thus contribute to the growth of the economy. The Annual Credit Plan for 2019-20 was launched at the meeting. DDM, NABARD, PK Das spoke on the need to improve financial literacy among the people by carrying out extensive awareness programmes. Heads of various government departments and bank officials were present in the meeting.
