 To contain the surge of novel coronavirus in Barak Valley, Karimganj deputy commissioner (DC)on Saturday has announced that the region may go under total lockdown from August 26 to September 4.

"We have talked to the chief secretary. He informed us that there is a possibility of announcing a total lockdown in the entire Barak Valley from August 26 to September 4 if the chief minister approves. It has not been confirmed, but there is a possibility," the DC told the reporters

Karimganj DC urged the citizens to stay prepared  for the lockdown and stock-up the essential items.

When he reached out to the Chief secretary of Assam, Kumar Sanjay Krishna, he stated "There is a possibility of lockdown from August 26 to September 4"

Assam chief secretary also added that "As the number of cases and deaths have both been increased rapidly in all three districts, we feel there is a need for some restrictions"

Due to alarming rise in Covid-19 cases in Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi, the state government has empowered the Districts to put required measures in place between Aug 26 & Sept 4, 2020.
