GAURISAGAR/DEMOW: Ashini Kumar Chetia, a resident of Sivasagar, former chief advisor of ATASU and State executive member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), died on Thursday night in a private nursing home in Guwahati. He was 49.

Born in 1971 at Hahchara Na-pam Chetia village in Sivasagar district, Chetia was the fourth son of Pratap Chandra Chetia and Snehlata Chetia. During his student life, he joined the ATASU in 1992. In 2010, he became the chief advisor of ATASU. After quitting from the ATASU, he joined active politics and contested as an independent candidate in Sivasagar constituency in the 2017 State assembly election. In 2019, he formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and till death he held the post of BJP State executive member.

His body was brought to Sivasagar on Friday. Tapan Kumar Gogoi, Jorhat MP, Jogen Mohan, Minister of State for Revenue and Disaster Management, Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Kushal Dowari, MLA of Thowra constituency, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Lakhinandan Gogoi, BJP workers, student organizations leaders and well-wishes paid their last respect to Ashini Kumar Chetia. He is survived by his parents, wife, a son, six brothers, one sister and a host of relatives.

DIBRUGARH: The central committee of All Assam Ahom Association (AAAA) has condoled the death of Ashini Chetia, noted youth leader and a die-hard social organizer who dedicated his whole life for the development of the Ahom community.

In a condolence message, the secretary of the central committee AAAA, Chao Hem Kanta Dihingia recalled Chetia's zeal and sacrifices in strengthening the AAAA in the State. "His death is not only a great loss to the Ahom community but Assam also lost a very talented youth leader," Dhingia added.
