GAURISAGAR, June 20: “Over centuries, the backward Mishing community has been living in the riverine areas of Assam. Where motorable and pucca roads end, Mishing villages start from there. Areas inhabited by Mishing people have not seen development. The government has been giving fake assurances for the development of the Mishing community. For development of Mishing community, it must be included in the Sixth Schedule and only then it will develop from all spheres,” said Sunil Pegu, chairperson of Mishing Autonomous Council (MAC), while speaking at the concluding meeting of the biennial conference of Sivasagar District TMPK, MMK and TMMK at Gana Silpi Bikram Singh Yein Memorial Auditorium, Dessangmukh in Sivasagar recently.

Addressing the gathering, president of MMK, Pegu highlighted development activities in the Dessangmukh area through MAC fund. The meeting was formally inaugurated by Moneswar Mili, member, MAC, Dikhow-Dessang constituency. In the meeting, the souvenir published on the occasion, edited by Durgiram Pegu and Devajit Pegu, was unveiled by noted poet Ganga Mohan Mili.
